The Rockefeller Story

Little boy goes up to his uncle, who is lounging in a chair, and asks him if he knows who Rockefeller is.

"Sure, " replies the uncle, "he's an American multimillionaire." Boy says, "Do you know how he got his fortune, Uncle?" Man says, "No, I don't believe so." "Well, we learned about him in school today, and I hope to follow his example.

Would you like me to tell you about it?" "Why, yes," his uncle replies. "It all started on a cold winter day, when Rockefeller was a boy, and he bought an apple from a street vendor," the kid begins. "He walked along, polishing his apple, and the more he polished it, the shinier it got. Pretty soon a passerby came up and paid him a dollar for it. So Rockefeller went back and bought two more apples with that dollar, polished them up, and sold them for a dollar each. He kept buying more and more apples with his profits, polishing them, and selling them, until eventually he had a big pile of apples.

" "What then?" the uncle asks, enthralled with the story. "Then," the boy replies, "his uncle died and left him 300 million dollars, and he became a multimillionaire."
